Reflection of Service Learning 2/19/09

1.) Yesterday was service learning and I was absent sorry to say but I have obtained some information from others in the group. They talked about one of our events: the Walk-A-Thon. Lakeisha was filling out the paper work for the grant to hold our Walk a Thon and permit to sell things, while Aquila called the art museum to ask if it was okay to host our Walk-A-Thon in that area then she was told to call the Fairmount Park Comission. Mr. Brasof talked to the documentary group about their change of plans they were originally making a documentary but instead they are doing a powerpoint presentation because some members of that mini group feel as tho they are the only ones who do the work.

2.)  And Georgia has decided to make others aware of the event by forming press releases and going to class to class speaking on the topic. Since I was absent its not much really to talk about and my group didn't elaborate on the whole service learning because they had work to do so instead I will talk about previous topics that have occured within our service learning group. We have came up with many suggestions and ideas . We planned and planned but we have not really accomplished none of our goals I think our topic is such a broad topic that sometimes its hard to reach certain goals because of the lack of support and people who are aware of the conflict in Darfur. For an Example, We had decided to have a flip flop drive but that paln has been delayed because we still need some one that could get these flip flops to the people in Darfur who needs them.

NHD Reflection 2009

This year things were much different from last year and some were similar situations that with every project you will always face but overall I think I have improved from last years project. For one, NHD was less stressful only because this was my second time around and I had some experience and a whole lot of focus. I also had a partner to help make certain decisions. But at the same time it was difficult to compromise because last year I did a paper so I was use to everything going my way.

Another process that became easy after I acquired knowledge and obtained experience was my bibliography. Since I had a partner it wasn't hard to find the source and since I used a website that Mr. Brasof showed us that would help form the MLA format it was pretty easy. Towards the end it was hard to find more sources because we decide that our project type would be exhibit which means we would need more primary sources.

Finally, the decorum of the board came natural for me and my partner. When it comes to color cordination we are great we dress ourselves every day, so we trusted in each others instincts. We decorated our board well. We showed off our primary sources well especially a recording that we found in yahoo. We used a tape recorder and recorded it and then taped it to our board so that people can hear it. I think our board was unique because of that.

Topic Selection Rough Draft

Born on October 4, 1941 to Oscr and Birdie Eckford was Elizabeth Ann Eckford. She was one of six children. Her mother taught at a segregated state school for blind and deaf children and her father worked at nights as a dining car maintainece worker.

But who would ever think that sixteen years later she would make an effort to change black America in the 1950's. She made history as a member of Little Rock Nine, the nine African American students who desegregation Little Rock Central High School.

Walking Alone through a screaming mob of furious caucasion students making "smart" remarks must have been scary. Despite the obstacles she faced as African American woman in the segregated world of the 1950's, Elizabeth Ann Eckford had enough courage to the attend Little Rock Central High, an all white school.

NHD Topic Selection

My partner (Shaquille) and I choose to do our NHD project on Elizebeth Ann Eckford because we were interested in the Civil Rights movement. Elizebeth made history as a member of the little rock nine, the nine African American students who desegregated Little Rock Central High School. She is important to history because without her efforts, school would have not been desegregated.
