Today we talked about different ideas that we've developed. Darren, Ayanna, and me were planning on writing an article on why Philadelphia should be involved and help Darfar. Lakiesha and Georgia were supposed to be writing a letter to businesses about being a sponsor for us. Other people were looking for books still that we could read to kids of an appropriate age group.  Another idea that Aquila  came up with was to have a flip flop drive since people that live in Darfar don't wear shoes or if so they are very flat in not so supportive. Then Mr. Brasof  came up with a flip flop party and Todd said that we should do flip flops for flip flops meaning if you bring in flip flops for the drive you can wear flip flops too.

service learning Project : What I've Learned?

Though service learning I have learned the following facts about the issue of Darfar:
  • Darfar is Sudan's largest region
  • there are 2.5 million refugees
  • there is a 50% death toll( high mortality rate)
  • 100 or more people get killed a day
  • Janjuweed come and killed newborns and others, rape the women, and bomb their homes early in the morning when no one is awake

Service learning Project

We had SLP on thursday, April 30, 2008. We had talked about wearing and selling T- shirts and wrist bands to support Darfur. Aquila was telling us about people that wanted to help us. New ideas that we came up with that we would like to accomplish. Some of these ideas included going to school to talk about Darfur and read books to appropriate age groups. We also had made suggestion about finding sponsors.  At the end of the of the session everyone was assigned a job that should be completed for the next time we meet up. I was assigned to find some book on Darfur that we can read and to continue to collect donations.
